We have recently had several clients supply us with forms and information related to an old scam that seems to raising its head once again.
Businesses are receiving notifications that their “2013 Annual Corporate Records Form” is due along with payment of $125 payable to “Corporate Records Services.” This is not a Michigan government form, though it is made out to look like one – even the green mailing envelope is made to look “official”. This form should be disregarded.
A similar scam was being used last February by the same organization stating that Michigan corporations were required to file annual meeting minutes with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and that for $125 they would fulfill the filing requirements.
Don’t confuse this scam report with the Michigan Annual Report, which typically carries a $25 filing fee, that is due on May 15 for corporations and February 15 for LLCs. You can file all necessary forms with the State of Michigan directly on their website, which can be found at and can be filed most easily on line with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs found here http://www.michigan.gov/lara
